$1 Million Prize for Call of Duty?

As crazy as it sounds Call of Duty has launched a $1 million prize tournament in pursuit to find the best team in the world. The tournament takes place in Los Angeles and will consist of 32 teams from around the globe! Now before everyone runs out to their nearest Gamestop to buy a Call of Duty Ghost game there are a couple things a gamer should have in mind.

  • The tournament takes place on an Xbox One counsel
  • The online qualifiers took place already
  • There is a strict rule set on how the game is played
  • Must have a team of four

So the way that the U.S. decides which eight teams will represent in Los Angeles is by online qualifiersImage, which actually finished up this weekend. The qualifiers are ran by MLG (Major League Gaming), on a website known as Gamebattles. The site runs two heats of qualifiers and takes the top eight teams for each heat.  These 16 teams then travel to Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida and compete on March 8 and 9. The top eight teams after Full Sail will earn an invitation to compete for the $1 million prize in Los Angeles.

The Call of Duty Champs tournament is ran through Activision, the creator of Call of Duty Ghost. The event will take place on March 28th through March 30th and anyone in the world can be sure to watch the action because it is live-streamed. Anyone interested in watching this competitive tournament during that weekend can at MLG.tv. Last year a U.S. team Fariko Impact won the champs and the life of four young men has been shaped by it.

It is crazy to think that four young men will make a substantial amount of money off a video game. The United States is taking a big turn in the direction of gaming for good or bad? That is up to the person of judgement. The fact that there is a $1 million prize shows there is money to be made from this tournament for multiple parties. So if Call of Duty is something that interest a person, it could be a way to make a little spare cash!
